Manchester City vs Liverpool Preview

by - September 09, 2017

What a game to kick start us with after the International break! This should be a feast of attacking play as Pep Guardiola's possession-based tactics take on Jurgen Klopp's aggressive and free-scoring forward line. Manchester City and Liverpool each harbour title so this should offer a gauge of how close they may go.

Team News

Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker returns from suspension. Guardiola, though, will be without captain Vincent Kompany after the centre-back sustained a calf injury while completing 90 munutes of Belgium's hammering of minnows Gilbraltar in World Cup qualifying last week.

Liverpool, meanwhile, arrive at the Etihad sitting just two points adrift of their opponents but will be without star-man Phillipe Coutinho. Coutinho met with Klopp earlier in the week and was told that it was not worth the risk bringing him straight back into the squad after suffering his back injury.

City have lost only one of their last eight home Premier League meetings against Liverpool (W4 D3), a 1-4 defeat in November 2015 which remains the last time City lost by three goals in a home Premier League game.

City have lost just one of their last 23 Premier League matches at home (W13 D9 L1), but they have only kept a clean sheet in six of these games.

Liverpool are unbeaten away from home against last season's top seven sides in the Premier League (P9 W5 D4 L0).

Key Players

Gabriel Jesus looks set to start again for the Citizens and hopes to keep his goalscoring form up. The Brazilian has been directly involved in 12 goals in his last 11 Premier League start for City (8 goals, 4 assists).

Sadio Mané will also be hoping to continue in his dazzling form. The Senegalese International has started the season with a bang scoring 3 goals in his first 3 fixtures.
